Spotlight on Officer Jon Sloan

Jon Sloan

When Jon Sloan graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a BA in Economics in May 1994, he never imagined he would become a Police Officer.

After working as a Pepsi sales representative for several years, Jon felt the need for a career that offered more and positively affected others.  With encouragement from his brother, a Fire Captain for the Bakersfield City Fire Department, Jon began his search for a rewarding career in law enforcement.  In 2000, Jon was successful in procuring a position at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department which enabled him to receive sponsored academy training.  After working five years for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Jon joined the UCI Police Department which better suited his family life.

Jon is married and has two active boys.  He is approaching his third year at the UCI Police Department.  Jon enjoys being an officer on campus because he now has an opportunity to positively influencing the lives of UCI students. He believes important skills needed to become a successful officer are strong ethics, positive interaction with the public and the desire to help others.

If you would like to know more about the law enforcement profession or about becoming a Police Officer, please feel free to email Officer Sloan at jqsloan@uci.edu.
